Long Time Area Bank Executive Retires

CBI Bank & Trust announces the retirement of Doug Sanders effective January 5, 2026. Mr. Sanders began his banking career over 36 years ago and has been with CBI Bank & Trust (formerly F&M Bank) since 1997. Over the years, Doug has held several positions at the bank including Executive Vice President, Chief Investment Officer and President & CEO.
Doug is the epitome of leadership and has demonstrated that by the success of our Knox, Warren and Peoria County locations. During his tenure, he and his team have grown the local asset size by nearly four times. In addition, he orchestrated the construction of the new locations Henderson Street and Seminary Square in Galesburg. He guided his team through multiple acquisitions, core conversions, charter consolidation and most recently the re-branding of F&M Bank to CBI Bank & Trust to align with our organization’s one team, one brand strategic priority. Doug’s leadership has been fundamental to the success of our organization as well as to our associates and the local communities we serve.
As a resident of the Galesburg area since 1997, Doug has consistently embraced the opportunity to be involved in the community. He has served on boards in various capacities for Discovery Depot Children’s Museum, Knox County YMCA, Galesburg Downtown Council, Galesburg Regional Economic Development Association (GREDA), Soangetaha Country Club, Illinois Bankers Association, National Railroad Hall of Fame, Knox County Partnership for Economic Development, St. Ambrose Presidents Advisory Council and Knox-Galesburg Symphony. His passion for seeing non-profit organizations succeed has driven him to play pivotal roles in the success of multiple capital campaigns in addition to providing sound guidance and leadership to help these organizations optimize their day-to-day operations.

In retirement, Doug is looking forward to spending more time with his family including his wife Heather, his adult children, and his grandson.
