The Dahinda Days and Native American Gathering
The Forgottonia Times™ Report
This September on Saturday 27th the village of Dahinda will once again be celebrating their annual festival Dahinda Days and Native American Gathering. Every year, the local community comes together, led by Dahinda General Store, to put on an exciting show full of authentic Native American dancing and drumming as the main attraction of the day. The Dahinda General Store, built and operated in 1916 as a general store, is now renovated and brought back to life with help from local vendors and their in-house bakery. It now helps to create this exciting and extremely unique day of celebrating the once Native American village of Dahinda and bringing to life the culture and experience of the Spoon River Indians.
Alongside the authentic drumming and dancing, displays of the Native American life will be set up in the scenic river bottom behind the store in the afternoon, bringing to life the purpose of the festival. However, there will also be an opportunity to shop with many well-showcased local vendor markets as well as Native American crafters and artifact collectors. The grill at the general store will be going most of the day and many delicious food vendors will be available.
There is something for everyone at the Dahinda Days and Native American Gathering, making an experience that is family-friendly, showing off the unique culture of Dahinda and creating an inviting atmosphere for everyone to enjoy that culture. It is a wonderful event celebrating the history of Dahinda as a former Indian Village. Educational, fun, and rich in heritage, we hope that you will make it out to this festival and even participate in the events if you would like! Mark your calendars for yet again another unique, exciting, family-friendly celebration of Forgottonia’s deep history and robust culture.
