Bushnell Fires up Support for Community Pool with Grills Gone Wild
The Forgottonia Times™ Report
The Bushnell Community Pool is firing up the grills once again as it hosts its second annual Grills Gone Wild fundraiser on Saturday, September 20, at the VFW in Bushnell. The event, organized in partnership with local volunteers and businesses, aims to raise money to support the town’s public pool and its role as a gathering place for families.
The day begins when gates open at 11 a.m., with meals available starting at 1 p.m. Adult entrances will be sold for $10, with children’s priced at $5 for ages 12 and under. Children three and under will enter for free. Guests can look forward to live music, raffle items, 50/50 drawings, baked goods, and both silent and live auctions, the latter beginning at 5 p.m.
At the center of the festivities is the barbecue cook-off, where local grillers compete in categories including poultry, ribs, pork, brisket, and dessert. Judging will take place between 2 and 4 p.m. A People’s Choice award will also be given, determined by tips collected at each cooking station.
Organizers stress that the event is more than a fun contest, but also a community effort to sustain a safe and healthy gathering space for local children and families at the community pool. Donations of baked goods, auction items, and volunteer time are welcomed, and monetary contributions will be accepted at the event.
With food, music, and friendly competition, the Bushnell Community Pool Board hopes the day will highlight both hometown spirit and the importance of keeping the pool thriving.
