By - Susan Van Kirk, Buchanan Center for the Arts
The Buchanan Center for the Arts at 64 Public Square in Monmouth, Illinois, proudly announces 64Arts, our upcoming national juried exhibition showcasing visual artwork from artists across the United States. It will be sponsored by Tromp-as-Writ, our amazing weavers group.
The show will be open to the public from September 9 through October 31. An opening for the exhibition with the juror, Ian Shelly, will take place on September 12 from 5 to 7 p.m. Please join us in enjoying the artwork and meeting Professor Shelly.
Ian Shelly is an Assistant Professor of Art (Ceramics) at Western Illinois University. He graduated with a BFA in ceramics from Texas Tech University and received his MFA from the University of Missouri. He teaches all levels of ceramics at WIU. Ian is an artist and educator utilizing all media and heritage in the canon of western art and craft. His background in ceramic vessel making and his interests in houses, weapons manufacturing, and childhood touchstones drives his subject matter toward humorous and sometimes haunting permutations and outcomes. Ian’s work has been featured in numerous venues around the country as well as publications within the field of ceramics.
We look forward to seeing you in the Pattee Gallery on the main floor of the Buchanan Center for the Arts.
64Arts is partially supported by grants from the Illinois Arts Council and Blick Arts.
