SRC Offers Cannabis Horticulture Processing Class

The Spoon River College Office of Community Outreach is offering a class called Cannabis Horticulture Processing this Fall. This 12-week program helps prepare students for a career in the quickly growing Cannabis Industry. Classes begin on September 11.

Cannabis Horticulture Processing will explore the harvesting, drying & curing, testing, extraction, processing, and contemporary legal issues surrounding the cannabis plant. Students will receive hands on training through in-person lab exercises. This class is being presented by Thomas Vogel, SRC biology faculty member whose areas of expertise include plant anatomy and physiology, propagation, genetics and evolution, Cannabis sativa and science education.

Lecture / labs will be held on Thursdays, September 11, 2025 – December 11, 2025 from 2:30-6:30pm at the Spoon River College Community Outreach Center located at 2500 E. Jackson Street in Macomb.

This semester’s fieldtrip locations will include Stoney Branch Ag Ventures near Rushville, IL on September 17 and October 29 and Nature’s Grace & Wellness near Vermont, IL on October 10. Students must be able to provide their own transportation to fieldtrips.

This course is offered at a discounted cost thanks to funding from Nature’s Grace & Wellness LLC. A textbook is also included at no charge to the student. Semester based scholarships are available! Contact Lily at lily.moser@src.edu for more information on how to apply.

This class is part of a certificate program being offered by the Spoon River College Community Outreach Department. The certificate program also includes a course called Cannabis Horticulture that is held in the spring. Additionally, this year SRC Outreach has added a new elective course called Outdoor Cannabis Horticulture that takes place during the summer.
