“Frank’s the Name, Trash is my Game:” A Family’s Legacy of Waste Management

Before Quality Roll-Off dumpsters frequently dotted driveways and construction sites, Frank Record was hauling trash in the back of a pickup truck. It was the 1970s, and Record, a natural people-person, turned routine pickups into lasting relationships. With a ready smile and his signature phrase—“Frank’s the name, trash is my game!”—he laid the foundation for what would eventually become Quality Roll-Off.

In 2004, Record and his son-in-law, Brian Platt, expanded from traditional trash pickup into the dumpster rental business, creating Quality Roll-Off as a sister branch to the original Quality Disposal. The move marked a shift toward meeting broader residential and commercial waste needs with a current fleet of 15, 20, and 30-yard dumpsters, as well as compactor rentals and servicing.

Quality Roll-Off remained under Record’s direction even after he sold Quality Disposal in 2018. He continued to operate the dumpster service until his passing in 2019 at the age of 88. Today, the company is run by Brian and Susie Platt, alongside their daughter Megan Stewart and her husband Jordan—three generations preserving a distinctly local, family-oriented business.

That personal touch remains central to the company’s operations. “As a family-owned business, our community is very important to us,” said Megan Stewart. Quality Roll-Off supports local events by donating auction baskets, participating in parades, and remaining active members of the Farmington Rotary and both the Farmington and Canton chambers of commerce.

The waste disposal landscape has changed significantly since Record’s early days. “Most of his competitors were small businesses like him,” Stewart reflected. “Now, it is being taken over by a select few big corporations” Despite these shifts, Quality Roll-Off has held fast to its small-town values.

Looking forward, the company is expanding its fleet to meet growing demand and plans to extend service into Knox County. “We’re excited to meet more people in that area and grow our relationships,” Stewart said.

From one man and a pickup truck to a multi-generational operation with regional reach, Quality Roll-Off continues to turn a necessary service into something personal—a lasting testament to its founder’s belief that trash collection could lead to community connections.
