During its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, March 9th, the Galesburg Community Unit School District #205 Board of Education officially accepted and approved the retirement of Dr. John Asplund.
Dr. Asplund, who has led the district since 2017, will conclude his tenure on June 30, 2027, following years of significant facility transformations and the implementation of the updated District Strategic Plan. Under his leadership, District 205 completed major building upgrades and maintained strong financial reserves during periods of economic uncertainty.
In conjunction with this announcement, the Board of Education will initiate a formal search process to identify the district's next leader. The Board is committed to a transparent and comprehensive search to find a candidate who will continue the district’s mission of providing high-quality education and fostering community citizenship.
“We recognize the importance of this transition and will begin the process of seeking input from staff, parents, and community members to ensure we find a leader who aligns with the values and goals of District 205, “added Board President Courtney Rodriguez.
