Cornucopia Celebrates One Year of Reusable Bag Token Program with Big Wins for Customers and Community

By - Hannah Lyon, co-owner of Cornucopia

Cornucopia Natural Market & Deli, a local leader in sustainability and natural living, is proud to celebrate the growing success of its Reusable Bag Token Program — an initiative that’s helping reduce waste while giving back to local organizations doing meaningful work.

Through the program, customers who bring their own reusable bags receive a token at checkout. Each token represents a 5¢ donation, which Cornucopia donates to a featured local nonprofit. Customers simply drop their token into the donation receptacle of their choice — a small action that’s creating a big impact.

To date, customers have saved 9,000 single-use bags from landfills since April 2024 and Cornucopia has donated over $400 to local nonprofits. The program has supported the following organizations: FISH Food Pantry, Blackthorn Nature Preserve, and Western Illinois Animal Rescue.

“We wanted to create a program that makes sustainability simple and rewarding,” said Hannah Lyon, co-owner at Cornucopia. “The best part is, every customer who brings a reusable bag gets to help support a cause that matters in our own community.”

The Reusable Bag Token Program will continue year-round, with new nonprofit partners featured on a rotating basis.
